AP Lang Day 37-Silent Spring RA Argument & Library Research

Today the students analyzed Rachel Carsons Passage Silent Spring from the AP Lang Exam for her Rhetorical Devices and creations of an argument in regards to pesticides. This passage looks for the students to apply both their knowledge of Rhetorical analysis (as they did in Pink Flamingo) and the use of Argumentation strategies such as Ethos, Logos, and Pathos as they will in their Research Papers. 2 Skills, 1 essay!

We were also fortunate to be able to use the Media Center for students to research book sources for their Research Papers.  We discussed that students need to this expansively about the background and foundation of their controversy, but narrow and be specific as to what is being addressed in their thesis.
