Straight from the Horse’s Mouth is the Student Magazine for Mandarin High School’s Journalism Program. This student-created publication is planned, written, designed, and edited by the 2025-2026 staff; we are so proud to share the voice of the student body and events on and off the campus of MHS.
Straight from the Horse’s Mouth: May Edition
As we close our chapter on our second year of Straight From the Horse’s Mouth, we release our very final edition of this school year. What started as rebuilding our magazine from the ground up became a place where we made so many incredible friends. Looking back on everything completed this year, I’m so proud of what we’ve built together. This is only the beginning, and I cannot wait to see where our next chapter takes us.

Straight from the Horse’s Mouth: April Edition (Click here for details)
No April Fool’s Joke-April went so fast, and then testing began, and I forgot to share our FABULOUS April Edition! Take a break from all those AICE/AP/EOC/tests and kick back with the latest edition of Straight from the Horse’s Mouth! This month, we feature the Arts & the Beautiful Miss Mandarin Pageant. We shot for the moon with an Artemis Update, gave a nod to Earth Day & the Kit Kat Heist. This edition includes a LOT of contributions from you: conversations about the new schedule for next year, some Senior Advice, Poetry, a New Contributor for the Movie Review, and fantastic student-submitted art that ended up in the MHS Gallery! Check it out below!

March flew by, and we are about to have another bit of a break. Take some time to read the latest edition of Straight from the Horse’s Mouth! This month we talk not only about the History of St. Patrick but also about the History of the Conflict with Iran since the 1970s. Â We celebrate Women’s History month with notable female authors, how Spring highlights students and teacher’s “Interfaith Connections”, preview upcoming events around our campus like the “Fashion Show” and “The Addams Family”. Delve into deeper topics of “Teen Takeover” misconceptions and the plight of the homeless in “Spare Change.” As always, find your favorite cartoons, interviews, and reviews!Â

Love to all of our readers! Straight from the Horse’s Mouth in February brings you the history of St. Valentine’s Day, as well as honoring Black Voices for Black History Month. Your Student Voices delves into conflicts at home and abroad, new technologies to bring medicine into the future, and a preview of a race around the US Capitol. This month’s focus on “Subscriptions for Our Lives” proposes the bigger questions of whether we really own anything anymore. As always, find your favorite cartoons, interviews, and reviews!Â

Hello All! Straight from the Horse’s Mouth has been through a LOT of updates in January, but still, all from your student voices. Â Find your favorite cartoons, interviews, and thoughts on current events, as well as new features.Â
New Features Include:
 Book & Movie Reviews
- An Excerpt from a new Novel by Mrs. Fields (Published now on Amazon!)
- Contributions from Non-staff students (We’d love to hear from you! Have a Creative writing or Art piece that you would like featured, send an e-mail to reedr1@duvalschools.org for review)Â
