  2. 1016706616-tumblr_m0kt4qtd9j1r65j1jo1_500Writing Reflection: Back in the first quarter, when we read The Crucible, we discussed the danger that can arise when fear takes hold of a society.  Today, we are living in a time of fear.  In a solid paragraph (minimum 150 words), discuss your thoughts about the current Corona Virus situation.  What do you fear most about the unprecedented times we are experiencing?  What can we learn from our society’s current efforts to shut down for the sake of containment?  What important sacrifices have you, your family, or your friends had to experience?  What do you think we are doing well?  What mistakes do you think we are making?  Please consider these questions as you express your feelings about the situation.
  3. creative-writing-i-high-resCreativity (VOCABULARY): Write an original story (at least 150 words) that incorporates each of the following 10 vocabulary words used correctly.  These words and the words from several other lists are being assigned in preparation for a novel study that we will begin in 4 weeks.  Please be sure to highlight or bold each of the vocabulary words in your story.
    • Dictate – command
    • Elusive – difficult to express, find, or catch
    • Foxhole – shallow pit dug by a soldier
    • Impose – to force something to be accepted by other people
    • Insecticide – substance used for killing insects
    • Insignia – a badge identifying military rank
    • Lingo – the vocabulary used by a particular group of people
    • Mortification – extreme embarrassment or shame
    • Negligence – failure to take proper care in performing a task
    • Volition – the power of using one’s own will or determination
