AICE Day 9: Character Cards

Character card Front and BackToday we started our discussion of the Knights Code of Chivalry in preparation for reading TOAFK: Part 2-The Ill-made Knight and the remainder of the novel (REMINDER! you should be DONE with Part 1 Tonight!). We created a set of 7 CHARACTER CARDS (See image at right) to track the progress of ONE character per card through the novel. This is a highly recommended technique for discerning a character’s voice in a multi-character novel, as the quizzes are quotes based.

The TOP image is the FRONT of the card:

  • On the LEFT the FAMILY connections (Who that character is related to, either by blood or other interaction)
  • On the RIGHT a list of the CHARACTER TRAITS of the individual and HOW we know it (a moment from the novel in parenthesis beside it).

The LOWER image is the BACK of the card:

  • This is the SINGULAR CHARACTER’S STORY-LINE
  • In chronological order you track what happens to just that character in the novel.

These cards help to create a “movie-trailer” in your head as to what happened just to them, again for study and review purposes. They should not have a large amount of writing, phrases and specific details, but not things such as a character’s appearance or age.
