AICE Day 11-Instructional Rotations

Cornell Notes PosterCurrent Events

Today in AICE GP we started our Current events study as we watched the CNN Student News, click link for this week’s broadcast.  The students complete a set of CORNELL NOTES for this bell ringer and they will keep it in their News of the Week Section in the binder. Being up to date on what is going on in the world is VITAL to properly supporting essays on current event topics on the GP Exam.

Also today the students worked in varying 20 min groups completing the following:

  1. Book Club-Independent reading of the class novel, annotating the text, etc.
  2. Writer’s Workshop with Mrs. Reed-teacher feedback and peer review on their current novel essays.
  3. News of the Week-The Wall Street Journal, the students use the HAND method to record basic details and information as to what is currently trending in the news.

Observations from today’s Writers Workshop:

  • Many students are still struggling with a proper LEAD IN to the quotes of support in their essays, they should be seamless with the student’s argument:
  • Proper Lead in rotated for websiteAdditionally students should be working towards having SEAMLESS TRANSITIONS between their body paragraphs, such as, the FIRST SENTENCE of the paragraph brings a bit from the previous paragraph and introduces the new paragraph:Seamless Transition rotated for website
