Today was a very quick day, lots of things to cover and it was Early Release! Great work on your PSAT Packets, those CURVED grades will be going in soon. Thank you as well to 5B who did so well with our Code Red Drill, very blessed that with small classes this year we can all fit together in the back offices. Wonderful Team work!
Welcome to the Genre Fan Fair 2016!
This is the Reading Extravaganza that the MHS Literacy Team puts on every year in support of our students continued love of reading. For AP LANG this year we are offering the following selections for 2 QUARTER ENRICHMENT PTS:
- Tallgrass by Sandra Dallas
- The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver
- The Awakening by Kate Chopin
- The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot
- The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan
- Unbroken by Laura Hillebrand
- The Portrait of Dorian Grey by Oscar Wilde
Students will select the novel of their choice from the list above and bring in THEIR OWN COPY (Library, Purchase, or Kindle/Nook-No Phones) NO LATER THAN 10/15. Submission deadlines are as follows (must complete all steps in order:
- 10/15: Novel Selected and brought to class
- Chapter Reading Notes Submissions Days: One page of notes per chapter, regardless of which book you choose; have the assigned notes by dates below. You cannot miss any of these dates to turn in your notes. You can always turn in your notes early. You do not earn extra time if you are sick; get these notes to me. All students must follow the same rules.
- 10/21: 1st 1/3 of Novel Read w/1 pg of notes per chapter
- 10/27: 2nd 1/3 of Novel Read w/1 pg of notes per chapter
- 11/2: Completion of the novel with final chapter notes
- After the last notes are turned in, make an appointment to see me to discuss your book and your plan for your presentation if you are competing for a Literary Ambassador spot. Students must meet with me between November 5 and November 13. I need to choose the Literary Ambassadors by November 14-15.
- If you want to compete to be a Literary Ambassador and you are chosen, there is an ambassadors’ meeting on November 20th in Mr. Price’s class after school; only one student can present per book. Students will compete for these 5 Literary Ambassador spots. The presentation must entice those who are visiting the Genre Fan Fair to WANT TO READ YOUR BOOK!
- Genre Fan Fair is December 3rd and 4th

- College Week Extra Credit Continues tomorrow! 4 Square fold a piece of paper and tell me 3 things EACH from college Week that:

- College Week for Friday also bring in the copy of your PRINTED or PHONE RCPT of the Registration for the College Fair on Saturday!
