Today the students received their Journals back from Part 1 of East of Eden, this assignment is to help them on the Rhetorical Analysis section of the AP Exam coming up May 11th (a little over a month away). Many of the students are not quite getting to the WHY a device is used, at no point should they be discussing “The Reader” or defining a device as an explanation. Be sure to follow the format of:
Device-“Example”(Steinbeck #): WHY the device was used, recommend starting out with a stem of “This illustrates/shows/demonstrates/reveals…” which helps set up the sentence for analysis.
