Day 58-“Bursting the Bubble” of AP, “Raisin” Act 1 Scene 1 & 2, AICE Debate Prep

AP Lang-Today we started the conversation of the AP Research Paper, as well as clarified the basics structure & expectations of the AP Lang Exam. Students put questions in balloons that were randomized & then POPPED! All questions seemed to be answered, but students are more than welcome to chat with me again after school about the AP Exam. Attending After-school Tutoring as we move into the RESEARCH PAPER is HIGHLY ENCOURAGED!

AICE GP 8B-Today the submitted their composition books for The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind and I cancelled the Socratic Seminar for Part 1 as I remember in their reflections on the TOAFK Group Project that they wanted additional time to work with their groups in the classroom. So, instead of the original 45 min they had the full class period to work and plan for the debate that is next class.

  • Debate Reminders; Students will complete:
      1. Opening (2 Min Per Team): Stating their Positions in the Debate and setting the foundations of their argument (demonstration of thesis creation)
      2. Rebuttal 1 (1 min each team): Students will trade out with additional team members to continue the debate, responding to their opponents opening statements and giving additional details as to why their (pro or con) position is correct.
      3. Rebuttal 2 (1 min each team): Again, students may trade out with their team mates to continue to build their argument (modeling seamless transitions between paragraphs in essay writing)
      4. Rebuttal 3 (1 min each team): Students will stress their last points, again showing that they have been actively listening to their opposition argument and rebutting it with specific facts & details.
      5. Closing (2 min per team): Student will wrap up their argument, showing seamless transition and paraphrasing their opening statements (Thesis restatements in writing)
