Day 12-Intro to HOD & Lit Card Samples

img_6945AICE GP-Today in class we started the discussion of the Vocabulary for Heart of Darkness. They should be completing the 1st 3 pages of the Chart, simply recording the phrase of the sentence that gives the word, the page number (all before pg 12) and then creating their own synonym to help them remember these words for future use. We did the 1st 2 in class as practice, we will be discussing the novel in class Wednesday next week.

Additionally, we did the Simile Sample card (all the same, just notes and a template for them to follow) and this will be a 10/10 for them in the gradebook. As another practice we worked on the Personification card which is the In Class card for the week as there is the How to Read Lit Ch 1-10 Test on Friday (students may use their journals as well as the notes from the in class review). If students did not complete the card, they were able to take it home to complete and return it on Friday, here are the notes from the board 2A:img_6944

Suggested students complete the IMAGERY card as they HW Card that is submitted to Turnitin.com as well as a hard card in class on Friday. Possible Examples to use would be from To Kill a Mockingbird:

  1. “Smoke was rolling off our house and Miss Rachel’s house like fog off a
riverbank” (Lee #)-Check your book for the proper pg and fill in where the # symbol is here
  2. “The street lights were fuzzy from the fine rain that was falling.” (Lee #)

Current Home Learning (How would Mrs. Reed do it?)

  • Due Friday 9/1-1 Lit Card (recommended as Wednesday HW, I’m available for tutoring on Thursday if you want help or to have me review it) 🙂
    • Quiz on HTRL Ch 1-10-Again, open Journal and Presentation notes (eyeball over this Thursday evening)
  • Due Wednesday 9/6-Vocabulary Pages 1-3 Chart (recommend breaking this down into 4 page sittings, don’t leave it all to Tuesday night!). Record AS YOU READ!
