AICE Day 31-Welcome to ATTC & more Debate Details!

Today was a wonderful introduction to Charles Dicken’s A Tale of Two Cities (many more details on the novel link above). I will be having weekly book discussions over this novel on Fridays (chapters 2-3 tomorrow) this qtr, stop in for the “coffee talk.”

Additionally, we discussed the upcoming class debate (Rubric attached there, it will be in class Dec 1-2), students should be reading their UPFRONT MAGAZINE (Password: MHS01) debates on the topics sected by their groups. EACH STUDENT should have for Monday & Tuesday:

  1. The T-Chart from reading the UpFront Magazine Debate details (this can be added to the back of the Water Bottle Debate that we read in class rotations).
  2. Hand1-2 Research Articles PRINTED OUT & ANNOTATED representing the part of the HAND that they selected to help EXPAND BEYOND just the the Upfront article.

Students will be discussing and planning their debate perspective on Monday & Tuesday in class next week creating:

  1. Each TEAM will create a TEAM PLAN Class Debate-including 3 types of appeals (look at the Point Counterpoint Handout), & 3 of the 5 fingers of the HAND.
  2. Each student should have 2 NOTECARDS that they can use during the debate, either an opening, closing (the same student cannot do both) and/or one of the supporting rebuttal sections. Teamates will tag in and out as to who has the best perspective on the argument
