AICE Day 32-The Great Debaters

Overall, great debates today! We addressed:

  • EQ: How do we properly support an argument during a Debate?
  • OBJ: Students will model proper use of the 3 Appeals as well as Concrete Evidence for their argument as a practice for proper argumentative writing.

This debate helps start students in the detailed thinking and reasoning that they need to master the AICE/AP Language & Composition Research Paper in the Jr. year that can be daunting for many.  The work that we will be completing in class in the next 2 weeks parallels directly with the 11th grade curriculum and detailing use of proper MLA Research Techniques.  In class we viewed the following clip from The Great Debaters looking at proper debate posture/gestures as well as support for the argument and use of appeals.

Then we reviewed class debate rubric again, making sure to remind that they need FACTS & DETAILS to support all arguments.
