AP Lang Day 45-Satire & Parody

Today was the 1st day of the new semester! We started off with a bit of wrap up, completing our last of the VOICE LESSONS that the students have been using as Bell Ringers for Rhetorical analysis (a bit of review, these warm-ups will be collected next class). Today’s VOICE LESSON was from Garrison Keillor, using a PUN to discuss the residents of Lake Woebegone.  This helped to transition into our discussion of Satire and Parody, the subtleties of these devices students will need to be able to analyze on the AP Exam in either the Rhetorical Analysis or Synthesis Essays.

For any who missed class today please review the following 2 PPTs discussing the difference in Satire & Parody:

We viewed the following Weird Al videos to show the contrast:

Satire (a more pointed addressing of issues through humor)

vs Parody (more humor based and mocking a specific item)
