Day 56-Mock Election, Acting Begins & Debate Planning

91q0bdubmdlAP Lang-Good debate today in class, overall the popular vote was a tie between Candidate Joker & Candidate Arthur, Candidate Arthur did win the moderator’s choice award so the office (enrichment) goes to CANDIDATE ARTHUR! Congratulations! From this debate we will be working on:

  • SPECIFIC & CONCRETE EVIDENCE
  • Creating a detailed argument (if you had a plan as a candidate we needed the specifics for that plan)
  • Transitions between topics, creating a fluid argument

AICE GP 8B-Intro to the Debate Project, selecting of new groups & the viewing of excerpts of “The Great Debaters.” All groups have their debate topics:

  • Even Groups (2,4,6) will Argue the Affirmative/Pro (Going 1st)
  • Odd Groups (1,3,5) will Argue the Negative/Con (Rebuttal)
  • Debate Structure is as follows:

  • All Groups selected their topics at random from the UPFront Magazine Debate topics & were checked out a copy of the magazine in which the debate topic is discussed. Additionally, they can go to the World Connections (UpFront & CNN Student News) link at the Left to read through the article if they were absent.

ALL Team Members need to bring in ONE ADDITIONAL piece of research on their debate topic for discussion before the Boy Who Harnessed the Wind Socratic Seminar next class.
