This week we continue our discussion of LEGACY. What moments in our history have shaped where we are now and how will you create YOUR Legacy? This week we jump forward in time to the 1960s and Dr. Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” Speech.

- ASSESSMENT: Complete the “Speech Analysis POST-TEST” on FOCUS NO LATER THAN 4/24

- Allusion-Reference to History, the Bible, or Mythology; requires prior knowledge to understand the statement
- Metaphor-a comparison between to things to show similarities, they are similar but not exactly alike (makes the item bigger/more important)
- Parallel Structure-repetitive language that has a similar structure (thing of the “He has… in the Declaration of Independence)
- Symbolism-object that is sitting in the place of a different idea or object, could be something physical that makes the situation bigger
- Alliteration- words that start with the same sound (not just the same letter) are used repeatedly in a phrase or sentence
