English 3 Honors (Also posted to Teams)

Please complete the following items if you were not in class Friday as they were done today:

  1. Sandburg Chicago Questions (On Page in Notebook under Bio Notes)
  2. View the Langston Hughes Bio on the Poetry Page here https://mrsreed.org/e3h-english-3-honors/poetry/, take notes as we did for Whitman and Sandburg
  3. Complete the Following Poetry Analysis, Including the Annotations of the Poems (Videos on Links above) and the Questions. (Scan Packet and Upload to FOCUS, If you cannot Print at Home-Use the WORD DOCUMENT, Highlighter tools there and answer the Questions below each) Both Files are the Same.
  4. Wrap-up: Discussion Board Post that is on the LAST Page of the Packet-You are NOT Replying to Each Other, just to the Discussion Board Post that I put with the Questions.
    • Discussion Board Prompt:Prompt: Compare & Contrast the “Call/Response” poems from Walt Whitman & Langston Hughes, use the texts to answer the following questions in a well-supported and detailed paragraph:
      • What do the poems suggest about the diversity and character of Americans?  (Explain with details from EACH text).
      • What do these poems express about their Author’s belief in America’s potential? (Explain with details from the text)
      • Explain how parallelism is used and what it does to the overall effect, especially since these poems are written in free verse. (Explain with details from the text).

       

      Reminders to include in your post:

      1. I recommend typing it in a word document 1st to check spelling, capitalization, and word count
      2. Author’s Name (Full Name or Last name, we never reference an author by their 1st name)
      3. “Evidence from the Text”
      4. Figurative Language (metaphor, parallelism, etc)
      5. Connection to the Author’s Purpose (What did they want to show or express?)
      6. UNDERLINE your Author’s Name
      7. BOLD your Devices
      8. HIGHLIGHT the Quotes from the Poems & the Keywords (Keywords to use)
