Today the students completed their 1st SYNTHESIS ESSAY (Prompt 1 on the Exam), this is the compressed research paper style essay. The students planned for approx. 5 minutes, then picked up their sources, read for 10 minutes, noting information relevant to their planned argument, then wrote for 40 min., leaving 5 minutes to reread their essay and make revisions. I know this was a trial by fire today, it will get better. They have discussed/planned a Synthesis Essay as a group, but today was the day to fly solo.
