DHR Week 8 (5/11-15): Post High School Readiness (ALL ASSIGNMENTS)

This week we transition our focus BEYOND high school, as college applications open in July or jobs/internships you might find this summer could help you plan for your future career!

To Do List of the Week:

  2. COMPLETE: Take the Myers-Briggs Personality Test by clicking here: https://www.16personalities.com/free-personality-test
  3. img_6636DISCUSSION BOARD: After taking the test, write down your findings by answering the questions below:
    • A. What was your personality type? (Mine was ENFJ-T)
    • B. What were some of the traits about your personality type that surprised you? (I was surprised that the primary job it said I targeted for was a Teacher as I never planned to be a teacher when I went to college)
    • C. What were some traits about your personality type that did not surprise you at all? (That it said my care for people was real and that when I really believe in someone that it can help to motivate them to believe in themselves.)
    • D. What career paths (see pict below) did the test say you should go towards? (Teacher/Writer)
    • E. Do you think this test is valid, meaning do you believe what it is based upon? Why or why not? . (I think this is valid as the traits it talked about were like eerily me, and I took it twice just to be sure it was the same both times!)
      • DON’T FORGET TO ALSO COMMENT/REPLY TO TWO OTHER PEOPLE ABOUT THEIR POSTS FOR FULL CREDIT! HAVE FUN!

  5. MINI-“WRITE”: Look at the following writing prompts and SELECT ONE to start writing your “College essay/Mini Memoir” you may share your choice with me through the following ways (OPTIONS!!! PICK ONE):
    • A. A min 90 second Video of you either uploaded to Turnitin.com or Flip Grid (treat this like a mini Interview/conversation not a tick tok video) https://flipgrid.com/4501ae0c
    • B. A 100 word written response either typed or written neatly in pen and a picture uploaded to Turnitin.com
    • C. A picture of the moment that you are going to discuss with at least 50 words typed & uploaded to Turnitin.com

Common Application Essay Prompts (These are the “Who am I?” Prompts)

  1. Some students have a background, identity, interest, or talent that is so meaningful they believe their application would be incomplete without it. If this sounds like you, then please share your story.
  2. The lessons we take from obstacles we encounter can be fundamental to later success. Recount a time when you faced a challenge, setback, or failure. How did it affect you, and what did you learn from the experience?
  3. Reflect on a time when you questioned or challenged a belief or idea. What prompted your thinking? What was the outcome?
  4. Describe a problem you’ve solved or a problem you’d like to solve. It can be an intellectual challenge, a research query, an ethical dilemma – anything that is of personal importance, no matter the scale. Explain its significance to you and what steps you took or could be taken to identify a solution.
  5. Discuss an accomplishment, event, or realization that sparked a period of personal growth and a new understanding of yourself or others.
  6. Describe a topic, idea, or concept you find so engaging that it makes you lose all track of time. Why does it captivate you? What or who do you turn to when you want to learn more?

Coalition Application Essays

  1. Tell a story from your life, describing an experience that either demonstrates your character or helped to shape it.
  2. Describe a time when you made a meaningful contribution to others in which the greater good was your focus. Discuss the challenges and rewards of making your contribution.
  3. Has there been a time when you’ve had a long-cherished or accepted belief challenged? How did you respond? How did the challenge affect your beliefs?
  4. What is the hardest part of being a teenager now? What’s the best part? What advice would you give a younger sibling or friend (assuming they would listen to you)?
